What is the history behind Indian cuisine?

According to history, Indian cuisine dates back to 5000 years. India is a diverse country, and every region has different religions, traditions, and cultures that impact the food. The Indian cuisine is strongly influenced by Persian, Mongolians, and Chinese, among many others. There are a large percentage of people who consume vegetarian food, and others eat meat. Hindus tend to stay away from cow meat, and Muslims don’t eat pork. But even after so many years with different variations and external influence, Indian cuisine has a remarkable flavor and fragrance that comes from a blended mixture of different spices.

What are the different ingredients?

As India is a vast area, the different parts have their own special spices that they use during cooking. Masala or blended spices is used in every dish. But different dishes have a different mixture of spices. For example, Biryani, a dish made with meat and rice, contains spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, and clove. Other ingredients such as coconut, chilies, yogurt, gram flour, mustard seeds are used in different Indian cuisine. Indians also tend to use ghee, a form of clarified butter, to make their food. The costliest spice, saffron, comes from India and is used to give the dish a great color and flavor.

Desserts

A form of sweet rice pudding, known as kheer, is a very popular sweet dish in India. Kulfi is an Indian ice-cream that comes in various flavors such as mango, sweetened sugar; rose water is another favorite among people. Payasam, gajar halwa, coconut soufflé, and other desserts are also popular among Indians.

Drinks

Chai is the most famous drink consumed by Indians that is made of the steeped teabag in milk, sugar, and cardamom seeds. Lassi, a yogurt-based drink, is also quite popular among people. Other drinks that people love to consume are carrot gheer, coconut milk, fruit juices, etc. Many don’t drink alcohol as it is forbidden in many religions and parts of the country.

Indian cuisine consists of a large number of dishes that people may find hard to remember. All of these dishes have their own unique quality, taste, and aroma. Every part of the country has different dishes to offer.
